1st HIGH SCHOOL XENOFONTA GREEK

  • Xenophon’s “Greeks” refer to the events that took place in Greece from 411 BC. until the battle of Mantinea in 362 BC. This is a particularly important work, as it is the most important source for this troubled period (4th century BC), but also a text that, with the liveliness, vividness and precision of the narrative, effortlessly arouses the reader’s interest.
The textbook mainly includes chapters from the second book of the Greeks, which record events such as the defeat of Athens at the Aegos Potamos, the siege and surrender of Athens to Sparta, the seizure of power by the Thirty and the crimes they committed until the restoration of democracy.
This aid aspires to contribute to the students’ effort to understand the historical events vividly described by Xenophon, but also to get to know and appreciate one of the greatest historians of antiquity.
Each section includes a faithful translation of the text, complete grammatical and lexical analysis, as well as a variety of hermeneutic, pragmatic and aesthetic comments. Also, answers are given to all the questions in the textbook, as well as supplementary exercises for better consolidation of the material and further practice of the student (the answers to the supplementary exercises are given at the end of the book).
Finally, all Topic Bank topics and their answers are included.
